Google cuts AI pricing with new Gemini 4 Carbon model

4h agoVia The RegisterWritten for Lucame clients

Google has released Gemini 4 Carbon, a model that sits below its top-tier Gemini 4 in capability but comes in at a noticeably lower price point. The timing looks deliberate: Anthropic, which makes the rival Claude models, is preparing for an IPO and Google appears to be putting pressure on its pricing ahead of that.

What this means for your business

If your business is already using AI tools or thinking about it, cheaper capable models mean the running costs for things like document summarisation, drafting, or data extraction are coming down. It's worth asking your IT provider to revisit which model you're actually paying for, because you may be able to get similar results for less. Nothing urgent, but it's a sensible conversation to have at your next review.
