UK landlines switching off for good in January 2027

8 hours agoVia The RegisterWritten for Lucame clients

Openreach has confirmed that the old public switched telephone network will be shut down on 31 January 2027, with no further delays. Any phone lines still running over the legacy copper network will stop working on that date.

What this means for your business

If your business still uses traditional landlines, analogue fax machines, or any equipment that dials out over a copper phone line, you need to act before January 2027. That includes things like door-entry systems, alarm diallers, PDQ terminals, and lift emergency lines, not just desk phones. Now's the time to audit what you've got and get it moved over to a VoIP or digital alternative, because 100 days isn't long if you've got a lot of kit to replace.
