Amazon tells engineers to use AI more or face consequences

22h agoVia The RegisterWritten for Lucame clients

Amazon has sent an internal memo to its software engineers making clear that it expects AI tools to be used heavily in day-to-day coding work. The message has unsettled a lot of developers, who read it as a signal that headcount will shrink as AI picks up more of the work.

What this means for your business

If you rely on an in-house developer or a software contractor, it's worth having a frank conversation about how they're actually using AI tools, because the productivity gap between those who do and those who don't is widening fast. For most small businesses, the more immediate question is whether the off-the-shelf software you use is keeping pace, since your vendors are under the same pressure. Don't assume that because something worked fine last year it's still the best option available.
