Microsoft AI agents to work with any contact centre platform

Microsoft is adding a Universal Connector to its contact centre tools, due in preview around October 2026 with general availability in November 2026. It lets businesses plug Microsoft's AI-powered voice and chat agents into whatever contact centre software they already use, via a straightforward API. When a customer needs to speak to a person, the handover happens without losing any of the conversation history. The idea is that you can bring in AI self-service without having to rip out and replace your existing setup.

What this means for your business

For a UK business running an in-house contact centre or a customer-facing phone line, this could be worth watching if you've been holding off on AI tools because of the migration cost. It's still about a year away, so there's no rush, but it's worth noting for your next contact centre contract review. If you're not sure whether your current platform would qualify, get in touch and we can check compatibility when the preview lands.
