Straight up the A1 and the M1. A different mix out here: media businesses around Elstree, commercial offices in Watford, professional firms in St Albans, and some very large houses in between.
Elstree and Borehamwood bring production companies and post houses, which need something most small firms do not: fast shared storage, upload paths that finish before a deadline, and a network that holds up when everyone is pulling from the same drive.
Watford and St Albans are more conventional. Serviced offices, accountancy and legal practices, and a steady stream of firms that need Cyber Essentials because a client has started asking.
Radlett, Elstree and parts of Bushey have the biggest houses we work in. Whole-house automation on Control4 or Lutron, cinema rooms, multi-room audio, CCTV and gates, usually all expected to run from one app.
These are jobs where the cabling plan matters more than the kit. We would rather be involved before the plasterboard goes up.
A post house in Borehamwood and a family house in Radlett have almost nothing in common except that both fail in the same way: the network was specified for what the building needed when it was built, not for what it does now.
For the production side that shows up as render and upload times nobody has measured, and storage that worked until the team doubled. For the big houses it shows up as a system installed by three different contractors who never spoke to each other, so the lighting, the audio and the cameras each have their own app and none of them talk.
St Albans and Watford bring a third version: office moves. There is a lot of movement between serviced offices out here, and the IT is usually the last thing anyone thinks about, which is why we end up doing them at weekends.
On site throughout this area, with remote support anywhere in the UK.
Bigger properties and more media work than anywhere else we cover.
Shared storage sized for the team you had, not the one you have. We measure before recommending anything.
Lighting, audio and cameras installed separately and never joined up. Usually fixable without replacing everything.
The cheapest time to cable a house is before it is plastered. Worth a conversation early.
Serviced offices turn over fast. Cabling, lines and kit moved over a weekend.
Asked for more and more by clients and insurers. We prepare the evidence and submit it.
Long driveways and gates that need to work from a phone, tied into the same network as everything else.
Forty-five minutes, on site or remote. We look at what you have: devices, licences, backups, network kit, who can get at what. Then we tell you where the risk sits and roughly what it costs to deal with.
You get it in writing either way. Some firms take that document and fix things themselves. That is fine.
Tell us roughly how many people, what software you cannot work without, and who looks after your IT now.
Call and describe it however makes sense. A couple of photos usually tells us whether it is a half hour fix or a bigger job.
